Submissions

This journal is not accepting submissions at this time.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

All submissions must be made through the journal website.

Format

The current word limit is 8,000–12,000 words for full-length articles.

Please keep the formatting of your article simple. Submit it in a standard font and size, double-spaced, and with one line between paragraphs. Use two levels of headings that are distinguishable (for example, the first bold, and second italicised). You can use footnotes, but please keep these to a minimum.

Reviewing

Submissions to the journal are peer-reviewed with the same process as Historical Materialism: sent out to reviewers for commentary and then discussed by the editorial board.

The journal uses a double-blind peer review system, which means that manuscript author(s) do not know who the reviewers are, and that reviewers do not know the names of the author(s). The reviewer reports are of a consultative nature, and the Editorial Board will then collectively discuss the submission. The Editorial Board has the final say as regards publication.

References

Historical Materialism: Workers and Capital uses a modified version of the Harvard referencing style.

In text, 'single quotation marks' are used, with 'the exception of "quotes" within quotes.' Punctuation follows the 'quotation marks', unless it is a part of the quote. Citations should be included in the text in the following format, either (Author, year: page) or Author (year: page), depending on the context.

In the reference list, included alphabetically at the end of the article, the following format should be used:

Surname, F. (Year) Book title, Place: Publisher.

Surname, F. and F. Surname (Year) 'Article title', Journal, Volume(Issue): Start page-end page.

Surname, F., F. Surname, and F. Surname (Year) 'Book chapter title', in F. Surname and F. Surname (eds.) Book title, Place: Publisher.

Surname, F. (Year) 'News article', Publication title, 1 January.

Surname, F. (Year) 'Page title', Website, Available at: [URL].

Revisions

When submitting a revised manuscript, we insist that two versions of the revised manuscript are submitted. The first, to be submitted as a ‘Revised Manuscript (anonymized)’, should be a clean, readable version of the manuscript showing all changes as accepted. The second, to be submitted as a ‘Marked Manuscript (anonymized)’, should clearly indicate all deletions and additions by use of the ‘Track Changes’ function in Word. If both versions are not submitted, the manuscript may be returned to the author.
